By-elections: DA building momentum - Wilmot James

DA FC says party increased its support in the four wards it held

By-elections:  DA building momentum for 7 May

The DA showed strong growth in by-elections held across the country yesterday.

We are encouraged with the excellent results we achieved in the four wards we contested. All four wards were previously DA wards, but we increased our support in the four wards. The results for the DA were:

(EC) Buffalo City ward 4:  93%
(EC) Nelson Mandela Bay ward 1:  85%
(FS) Ngwathe ward 13:  98%
(MP) Steve Tshwete ward 15:  95%

We are growing all across South Africa. We are increasing our majorities in the places where we have won before. Previous by-elections have shown that we are growing in former ANC strongholds as well.

As yesterday's results show, the DA is growing across all provinces. Our support levels are increasing in both urban and rural areas across all the provinces.

These trends are only getting stronger as our campaign for 7 May starts to kick in. In the next 34 days to Election Day, we will roll out an unprecedented door-to-door in-person voter outreach programme. Our volunteers will be active and visible in every community, every day. We will further intensify our advertising campaign. DA leaders will fan out across the country to reach every community.

All of these factors, together with the growing consensus that the DA is the only party that can stop the corruption in Jacob Zuma's ANC, is fuelling our momentum for 7 May. This bodes extremely well for the DA's prospects.
