By-elections show DA in GP ready to lead for growth and change

6 April 2023

The DA in Gauteng celebrates the results of two hotly contested by-elections in Gauteng that took place yesterday.

In Tshwane Ward 105, the DA grew its support, winning almost 30% of the vote.

In Merafong, the DA’s David Harman retained Ward 16 for the DA with 53% of the vote, an increased majority from 36% in the 2021 Local Government Elections.

We congratulate David for building on the work of the DA in Merafong and earning the trust of residents as they continue to support the DA to fight against the ANC’s track record of catastrophic failures of service delivery in Merafong.

But growing support in elections is only one part of the DA’s commitment to the people of Gauteng.

Our councillors have earned a reputation for hard work under immensely difficult circumstances brought about by the failures of ANC governments. Loadshedding continues to limit the ability of the people of Merafong and the whole of Gauteng to build the businesses, deliver the services, and manufactures the goods needed to get local economies going and make a fair chance at a better life through honest work a reality.

Cllr-elect Harman carries on the proud tradition of the DA stepping up to speak up for those residents who need a voice, to fight corruption in local government, to work with all those who want to see our province and country succeed – in short, to do what the DA has rightly become known for: getting things done.

As the DA in Gauteng and the entire country gets ready for the 2024 elections almost a year from today, we make this promise to the people of Gauteng: the DA will be champions of solutions in all communities and we will work hard every day to earn your trust, support, and vote. Phambili, DA! Phambili, Gauteng!
