DA seeks answers on disturbing increase in snaring in SANParks
7 November 2023
The DA is deeply concerned by the recent reports of an alarming increase in snaring incidents within South Africa’s National Parks (SANParks), particularly the iconic Kruger National Park. The revelation that six elephants—a keystone species—have fallen victim to snares this year alone is a call for urgent action.
Snaring is a cruel and indiscriminate practice that not only causes immense suffering to the animals caught in these traps but also poses a significant threat to our biodiversity and conservation efforts.
The DA will be submitting a series of parliamentary questions to establish a clear understanding of the scope of this issue:
The exact number of animals caught in snares within all SANParks areas.
