POPCRU distraught over the continued killing of police officers
24 January 2023
The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) notes with disdain the continued killing of our men and women in blue.
In the latest incident, Warrant Officer Roger Mavundla, who was with his wife and three children were shot at, resulting in the death of three, with the third child having been rushed to the Margate Netcare hospital with injuries on the leg and head.
This horrendous act takes place at the same time when yet another officer, Captain Lusasa from the Musenburg SAPS in the Western Cape was brutally stabbed to death in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) reports, there have been 22 police officers killed during July to September 2022, and with the continued killings beyond the stated period, we are concerned that these numbers will continue rising unabated if no action is taken.
