Contractor apologises to MEC Qedani Mahlangu for Generator Failure at Bara

The contractor responsible for the installation of three new generators which failed to automatically start during a power outage at Chris Hani Baragwanath on 7 September 2012 has apologised to the MEC for Infrastructure Development Qedani Mahlangu. 

"We know that this is not acceptable, especially because it is a hospital which deals with critical situations", said the Managing Director of Unilec Power Systems, Mr MJ van der Heever in a letter to the MEC.

MEC Mahlangu has accepted the apology, stating, "We welcome contractors which have a social conscience and are committed to rectifying problems with speed and efficiency taking into account the gravity of the situation".

The MEC acknowledged that the Department for Infrastructure Development has experienced problems with the payment of suppliers and has vowed to take an active role in resolving the situation.
