Office of the Presidency

21 September 2012

Statement of the Special Congress National Committee Meeting held on the 21st of September 2012 in Witbank, Mpumalanga.

"Unity of the Congress of the People based on a common programme and underlined by Internal Democracy Principle - An All Inclusive Congress is the ANSWER".

The Congress National Committee met on the 21st of September 2012 in Witbank, Mpumalanga to consider amongst others the current litigations and how they help the Congress of the People to rise from the bottom.

Guided by its firm and uncompromising belief that the members of the Congress of the People are the one to determine their leadership and not the courts of laws, the CNC resolved:

1. To reiterate its call for an urgent and all inclusive national elective congress that must take place before the end of 2012. Accordingly, the call for a special way of celebrating the birth of Cope by holding such an inclusive Congress on the 16th of December 2012.

2. To immediately send out an invitation to the Lekota group for a round table to begin to discuss practical steps towards an inclusive congress; the CNC further resolved to do all that is practically possible to ensure that all those who remain committed to the cause of the Cope are engaged towards this goal.

3. Level the field of engagement by ensuring that interested parties including all of those who are purported to be expelled participate;

4. To ensure centrality of all members of Cope across the country through branches as established and audited preceding the Heartfelt Congress. In this regard, the CNC shall dispatch its leadership to all branches to communicate its decisions and ensure buy in by all members and seek further mandate going forward.

5. The CNC rejected with the contempt it deserves the newly acquired status of Mr Lekota who has appointed himself as a spokesperson of opposition parties in South Africa.

6. The CNC confirmed that in order to enable the Congress of the People to participate in the daily political life in South Africa we need a united organisation with single leadership which is very clear on what is the enemy of Cope and the citizens of this country. In this regard, the CNC confirmed that Poverty, Inequality and Unemployment are the triple enemies of all South African and that those enemies can't be fought under the banner and neoliberal policies.
