The Congress of the People welcomes blacklisting of companies
The Congress of the People welcomes the blacklisting of 120 firms by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, effectively barring these companies from acquiring lucrative government contracts.
It is encouraging to see decisive leadership from a cabinet minister in rooting out corruption. There is no doubt that an efficient and transparent tender process for suppliers and contractors would speed up service delivery. Inevitably it is the wealthy and the politically connected who receive such contracts at the expense of the poorest South Africans.
The Congress of the People calls for the scope of investigations to be broadened to include other companies that have habitually benefited from political connections, or corrupt relationships with certain government officials. Its time for the wealth of our country to benefit the majority of its people.
