COPE YM reiterates support for Lekota

Nqaba Bhanga calls on party structures to rally round the leadership

The COPE Youth Movement reiterates its call to action to all members and supporters of the organisation and urges the Youth to be at the frontline in promoting and defending unity within the party and its structures.

Noting the party's performance in the recent elections, the Youth Movement reaffirms its commitment to building COPE ahead of the 2014 National and Provincial Elections and urges all members and supporters to meaningfully contribute to the Alternative Agenda of Hope and Change.

Believing firmly that COPE remains the only viable alternative voice for the people of South Africa and the only viable champion of the interests of our people and the Youth of South Africa, COPE YM calls all Youth to the frontline in building and strengthening the vision, mission and programmes of the organisation.

The Youth Movement reaffirms its support for and confidence in the leadership of President Mosiuoa Lekota and urges the party, its structures, leaders and members, to rally around our leadership to ensure a strong, cohesive and united front in Defense of our Democracy and Constitution.

The Youth Movement further firmly believes that all the party structures, leaders and members find consensus in the need to build COPE and extend the grass roots presence and profile of the organisation.

Accordingly the Youth Movement will continue to promote this consensus and unity of purpose, encouraging COPE leaders, members and supporters to refrain from petty personal politics and fruitless contestation that ultimately detracts from the real work of the organisation.

Additionally, the Youth Movement calls all shareholders in our historic project to the table in a meaningful partnership that will embolden the party's efforts to serve the people of South Africa through engagement in and contributions to the substantive issues and challenges faced by our people, communities and the Youth.

The Youth Movement calls all Youth to the frontline and reiterates the pivotal role of the Youth as shield to defend the organisation and its gains, and to protect and deliver on the mandate entrusted to the party and its public representatives by the people of South Africa.

Accordingly, the Youth must preoccupy itself with less rhetoric and more practical work and campaigns with a direct meaning to the daily challenges of South Africans.

The Youth are thus encouraged to continue fulfilling its legitimate role and responsibility as the heart and hands of the organisation on the ground and called to continue contributing to and supporting the Youth Movement and party's policies and programmes. The Youth must continue to play a seminal role in leading at the forefront in issues of social and economic development through meaningful partnership with all shareholders of the organisation and through continuous engagement with local authorities and business entities.

Thina sonke! All of us together!
