COSATU FS welcomes sentencing of Reitz Four

Sam Mashinini says a clear message has been sent to others

COSATU Free State Statement on Bloemfontein High Court Judgement on Reitz Four

The Congress of South African Trade Unions Federation in the Free State Province has welcomed the Bloemfontein High Court judgement involving the four students of Reitz. The federation has said from the beginning that what the four students have done was basically an insult to the entire nation and did not only affect workers.

We also believe that the sentencing of the four by the High Court today will send a clear message to all who continue to perpetuate acts of racism in the Free State and the country and not only at the public institutions. We also believe that the sentencing will send a clear signal to the university council and its rector when they internally drop the charges against the four students.

From the beginning we said Professor Jansen and his council was completely wrong in dropping the internal charges against the four and the judgement has proved us right. What the four students have done did not want a person with high qualifications to see the wrong done by the students.

A clear message has to be send to others

Statement issued by Sam Mashinini COSATU Free State Provincial Secretary, July 30 2010
