COSATU to protest against Obama’s trade threats - Tony Ehrenreich

Union federation says US is trying to extort South Africa

COSATU Western Cape action against Obama’s trade threats on Tuesday 10 Nov 2015

COSATU will be protesting the Obama administration’s announcement on trade sanctions, on Tuesday 10 November 2015 at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The Obama administration expects us, to allow old meat into our country that does not meet the required standards. This blatant attempt at extortion will result in the loss of many jobs in South Africa, across many sectors that presently benefit from AGOA.

COSATU will be making a statement on the unfair restrictions that the USA is imposing on the country, at 12h30, and will call on the Government to review the entire trade regime with the USA, should they continue with this threatening stance that undermines the diplomatic efforts underway. The Unions in COSATU that are affected by the trade sanctions will also be present at the press conference.

COSATU will be addressing the end of year function of its Senior Citizens at the Amphitheatre in the Waterfront and will make the statement in that public meeting.

The details of the press briefing are as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 10 November 2015-11-07
