Murder of political leaders in Mpumalanga to be probed by National Police Commissioner
24 JANUARY 2011
COSATU in Mpumalanga welcomes the decision by the National Commissioner of Police, General Bheki Cele, to send high ranking investigators into Mpumalanga to probe what is perceived to be political murders in the Province (see Bua News report).
The decision to deploy the investigators comes just a few days after COSATU in the Province called for the urgent intervention by both the Alliance nationally and the government (Minister of Police or the National Commissioner of Police) to probe the murder of political leaders in the province.
COSATU has complained that nearly every year in Mpumalanga a political leader is murdered and their death remains a mystery. At the beginning of January 2011 the Chief Whip of the Hlanzeni District Municipality, comrade Johan Ndlovu, was murdered, the murder of Johan Ndlovu happened of after the province experienced the murder of Bomba Ntshangase who was the leader of the SACP in the Province, Gabriel Mkhumbane who was the deputy president of PUDEMO, Jimmy Mohlala and many more high ranking political leaders.
It is against this background upon which COSATU welcomes the intervention by the national commissioner of police.
