Countdown has begun for opening of new Natalspruit hospital - Gauteng DoH

Dept says snag listing by the contractor is at approximately 90%

Preparations for the opening of the new Natalspruit hospital are ongoing

A countdown for the official opening of the new Natalspruit Hospital has begun. The Hospital's construction has been completed and the snag listing by the contractor is at approximately at 90%.

Gauteng Health MEC, Mr Hope Papo said this during his response to a parliamentary question for written reply at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. The MEC has assured Gauteng residents that a date to open the hospital will be communicated to them once a total completion of the infrastructure has been finalised and all necessary equipment have been installed and tested. All these measures are taken to avoid rushing to open the hospital and experience operational problems after that.

""The final stages of the preparations for the hospital to open and be operational include the configuration of electronic equipment which is in progress, the installation of monitors in the control room, oxygen tank, radiology equipment and configuration of all CCTV cameras" MEC Papo said.

Other essentials that the Department has been looking  into include issues such as: relocation of staff, operational training of all workers to manage systems in the building, procurement of equipment from abroad , delivery and installation of bio-medical equipment and transfer of the property from Ekurhuleni Metropolitan municipality to our Department" concluded  MEC Papo.

Upon its completion and opening, Natalspruit Hospital will be a flag ship Hospital within the South Africa medical system. This  state of the art hospital  has to date cost more than R1.5 billion to build while more than R47 million has been spent on 771 beds and building of  a gateway clinic as well as a modern crèche. The newly built Hospital has been designed to enhance how we deliver care to our patients with much needed  services such as Accident, Emergency and Trauma unit; Adult ICU and High Care; Paediatric ICU and High Care; Psychiatric ward, TB ward; Gynaecology and maternity services as well as a Burns unit.
