DA calls for suspension of NSFAS CEO

The DA calls for the suspension of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) CEO Andile Nongogo after revelations that he not only participated in the bid evaluation process, but that he and the board lied about it.

Leaked recordings revealed that Nongogo was present at all nine presentations for the NSFAS direct payment service contracts, and that he was allowed to make comments and ask questions.

Given NSFAS’ attempts at deceit, it is clear that Nongogo’s special leave should be turned into suspension, and that a clear timeline for the investigation by Adv Tembeka Ngcukaitobi and attorney Sandile July into the allegations against Nongogo and the scheme’s procurement systems and processes needs to be provided.

The thousands of students that depend on NSFAS to fund their studies and now have to deal with the fall-out of these service delivery failures cannot have the investigation drag on indefinitely.
