Party leader says this is a reminder of how much we all care about our future

DA commends citizens abroad for voting to Rescue South Africa

19 May 2024

The Democratic Alliance (DA) would like to thank and commend the tens of thousands of South Africans residing abroad who came out to cast their votes at embassies and consulates around the world this weekend.

The visuals of South African citizens who travelled long distances, and braved hours of queues spanning several city blocks, are a testament to the love we all have for our country and our shared desire to rescue our home from decades of ANC corruption and neglect.

Witnessing our democracy in action, even on the other side of the world, is the most wonderful and heartening reminder of how seriously South Africans value our democracy, and how much we care about the future of our country. For many citizens living abroad, South Africa will always be home, and the mission to rescue our homeland remains the single most unifying cause for South Africans from all walks of life.

The DA calls on all South Africans residing in the United Kingdom (UK) to cast their ballots at the High Commission in London before voting stations close this evening, as Sunday 19 May is the second and last day to vote for this particular embassy. There are still a few hours left for South Africans residing in the UK to come out and vote to Rescue South Africa.

On behalf of the DA, and on behalf of each and every South African back home, I want to thank all of the citizens abroad who cast their votes this weekend.

Your effort to partake in our democracy, despite the travel and long queues, is a true act of democratic heroism for which we are all very grateful back home.

Thank you for honouring our democracy, from wherever in the world you came out to cast your ballot, and thank you for voting to Rescue South Africa.

Issued by John Steenhuisen, Leader of the Democratic Alliance, 10 May 2024
