DA defector placed in a R270 000 month govt job by ANC - Kate Lorimer

DA MPL says former DA Councillor Toni Molefe was employed by the Gauteng Dept of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation as an Assistant Director in March

DA Defector earned more than President Zuma

14 September 2014

At the end of February this year, DA Councillor Toni Molefe defected to the ANC.

It has now become clear that Mr Molefe was essentially bribed to join the ANC with an extremely high-paying government job.

In a recent reply, Gauteng MEC Molebatsi Bopape, indicates that by 15 March Mr Molefe was employed by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation as an Assistant Director at a whopping gross monthly salary of R 270 804 plus benefits.

This means that Mr Molefe was earning more than President Zuma at the time.

The answer also establishes that the particular position was advertised in October 2013 and that there were 200 applicants for the position.

It is not clear why it took so long to fill this position and that, when filled, the position went to someone who defected from the DA to the ANC before the 2014 elections.

Mr Molefe has since been moved to the Gauteng Department of Economic Development. We have submitted follow up questions to determine what positions he now holds there, and what he earns.

I will be writing to the Public Protector regarding this matter to request an investigation.

It is time the ANC owned up to "operation reclaim" and it's dirty tactics around offering money and positions to DA public representatives around the country to entice them to defect and join the ANC.
