ANC says DA does not care about poor
The ANC in the Western Cape asks why thousands of poor people in about 48 Cape Town informal settlements are still suffering every winter as the DA has promised for years to improve their lot.
With extreme cold, the hard rain and a high wind storm since the weekend thousands of people have been inconvenienced and many displaced because the DA has not made good on its promises for more than a decade to make a plan with low lying and informal settlements with inferior services.
ANC provincial leader Marius Fransman says every year the DA promises to do something about the dire conditions of these people. At the onset of the next winter the people are still in the same abject settings.
"It is the start of another dreadful winter for many poor as the flow of storm water is not properly attended to, pumps and pipes were not installed to remove the excess and no proper provision is made for adequate or dignified shelter. The DA-led province and city of Cape Town cannot reach their targets on human settlement assistance to the poor.
"If the conditions continue the same for another few days it will be a disastrous rain season. Instead of stabilising the conditions tormenting those in need, the DA is only worried about its politics of deflection and deception.
"Instead of looking after those that cannot fend for themselves, the DA shows it does not care for poor coloured and African people. It spends more time denying it was part of apartheid, than on real humanitarian or social priorities.
