DA govt has allowed education to become more unequal - COSATU WCape

Tony Ehrenreich says children in townships have inferior educational resources to those in the shadows of Table Mountain

COSATU Forces Provincial Government to Negotiate On Equalizing Education

The Provincial government has allowed education to become more unequal in the W Cape over the last few years. The effect of this is that poor kids in the townships have inferior educational resources to the kids in the shadows of Table Mountain, In Claremont and Constantia. This effectively reduces the prospects of the kids from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha, in relation to those from Claremont. This is unfair as all kids should have the opportunity to realize their potential and prepare themselves for the future. The effect of this is that kids from township schools have a disadvantage when they go for an interview for a job or an application for tertiary education.

Premier Zille can't even mention the fact that all kids should have the same educational opportunities, because her main focus is to defend the Apartheid generational advantages of white people and some of the new black elite.

Premier Zille also said that she would not negotiate social policy with Cosatu as it tries to give working families a fair deal in the society. We have forced the Provincial Government of Premier Zille to negotiate with us, through using Section 77 of the Labour Relations Act. This clearly makes a mockery of her highly paid mainly white lawyers who are miss advising her, to feed her prejudice against the working families of Cape Town.

The teachers in the W Cape township schools have to work twice as hard as the ex-model C schools as they have double the amount of kids in their classes with all of the social problems of the townships.. The ex-Model C school teachers also earn more salary than the poorer school teachers due to payments of allowances like for extra-curricular activities and additional bonuses paid.

The negotiations for equal schools will start today at 16h00 between the Provincial Government and Cosatu to give working class kids a better life and stop the Zille racism in the W Cape.
