DA UNDERMINES THE NPA
7 May 2013
The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has noted with grave concerns the Democratic Alliance's attempts to have charges against Comrade Mike Mabuyakhulu and Comrade Peggy Nkonyeni re-instated.
The charges against our comrades were dropped by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) after it had done a thorough assessment of all available evidence and consultation with all the key witnesses. The NPA made it clear that the charges could not be sustained against them during the trial.
And in its attempt to unfairly hog headlines and mislead the public, the DA is trying to force the NPA to revive the case. We have no doubt that the DA is doing this to demonise our comrades and the ANC to score cheap political points.
What is worrying about the DA's move is that it forms part of what seems to be a well calculated attempt by the party to undermine our constitutionally formed government institutions such as the NPA.
