DA KZN shocked by Stanley Dladla's arrest

Makhosazana Mdlalose says increasing numbers of local govt officials linked to criminality

DA IS SHOCKED AT THE SENIOR UTHUKELA MANAGER'S ARREST

THE Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal is shocked that the former executive mayor and senior uThukela manager, Stanley Dladla was arrested at the weekend after being found in possession of illegal firearms (see Witness report).

According to media reports, Dladla and six other men were found in Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and are suspected to have been dealing in diamonds and gold. DA KZN spokesperson for Local Governance, Makhosazana Mdlalose conveyed her party's concern over what she termed the increasing number of senior KZN government officials facing criminal charges.

"We are disturbed by the high number of senior municipal and government officials that are being linked to fraud, corruption and other criminal charges. It is shocking that a senior official, who is well aware of consequences aligned to being found in possession of illegal firearms, is being accused of committing such a crime.

It is all the more troubling to find that he is also being accused of dealing in diamonds and gold. Dladla holds a position of public trust and should know what is at stake.  He should be setting an example to his community and followers."

Mdlalose has called for a full investigation to be conducted. "We need to see a full enquiry launched into the serious allegations against him and for the law to take its course.  If he is found guilty he must be suspended without full pay - the habit of suspending officials with full remuneration does little to
deter them against any wrongdoing."
