DA launches Activist App – Mmusi Maimane

Members can use it as a tool to advance the goal of the party

DA launches Activist App ahead of 2016 local government elections

11 April 2016

Today the Democratic Alliance (DA) launches our ground-breaking Activist App, an online tool which seeks to empower DA members and activists on the ground to get involved and volunteer to help advance the DA’s cause ahead of this year’s Local Government Elections (LGEs).

This year’s election is set to be the closest and most hard-fought election since the dawn of democracy in 1994. The governing party is on the back foot - marred in controversy - and we are under no illusion as to how much of a rigorous battle it will be.

It is for this reason that we are seeking new and innovative ways to ensure that the DA is effective and efficient in mobilising South Africans to become agents of change.

Our Activist App revolutionises the way door-to-door campaigning, house meetings and other aspects of canvassing happen. The app acts as a one-stop-shop en route to becoming a vote-winning champion for the DA. From the dashboard, you can complete a number of actions, and as you go, the App will monitor your progress to help you move through the ranks of activism – taking you from humble beginner to activist superstar.

The app goes live today and can be accessed here: https://my.da.org.za/

Some of the ways you can currently use this dashboard to win votes include:

Learn about the party and become an expert about the DA.

Become a DA Champion on social media.

Check the voter registration status of family and friends.

Follow the latest news about the party.

Raise money for the DA.

Sign up to receive DA newsletters.

Recruit new activists.

As we roll-out the DA Activist App further, we will introduce new, innovative tools for our activists to use. In your community, you can use this App to knock on people’s doors to ask for their support, host house meetings and volunteer to help on registration weekends and Election Day.

Ahead of this election, the DA will have more boots on the ground than any other election before, and the Activist App is one of a number of tools that will be used to maximize voter interaction by ensuring that everyone, from Activists to Public Representatives, articulate the Party’s offer of positive change, and values of Freedom, Fairness and Opportunity with one clear voice.

This last few days I was in Nelson Mandela Bay, Johannesburg and Tshwane, and South Africans are calling for change and are ready to vote for change on 03 August.

The ground is shifting and the ANC know this to be true, hence the often hostile reception from ANC officials and members in Tshwane who make it difficult for our members who embark on door-to-door campaigning. But we are not deterred by the ANC’s underhanded tactics, we are in fact emboldened to work even harder.

We are putting forward a savvy campaign in order to ensure that we grow and win. We are working towards winning not just for the sake of winning but so we can change the living conditions of areas like Zandspruit, where schools and clinics lie next dumping sites. We are working towards winning so we can have Mayors in Nelson Mandela Bay, Tshwane and Johannesburg who are responsive to the needs of the people throughout their entire term, not just ahead of elections.

South Africa is desperate for change and the DA is the one true party which can and will do so.

Finally, I would like to thank South Africans, from Messina in the north to Khayelitsha in the south, for registering to vote, because voting is the best mechanism for protesting against those who do not deliver services and sending a message to those who reduce the Constitution to a book of words.

We have a long campaign ahead of us, and we will not sleep until all South Africans hear our message of change and we build the kind of South Africa we all dreamed of when all South Africans cast their vote in the historic 1994 elections.
