This afternoon I will be laying criminal charges against ANC MP, Yolanda Botha, at the Cape Town Central Police Station.
In September 2011, the Ethics Committee found that Botha had failed to disclose her business interests, and that she willfully misled Parliament concerning kickbacks she received from a business venture.
At the time, the Committee recommended the strongest possible sanction for her misconduct.
However, yesterday the ANC members of the Ethics Committee backtracked on the committee's initial recommendation and voted to adopt a watered-down version of the report.
The DA will not allow Botha to get away with numerous counts of serious misconduct.
Our decision to lay charges today is the first step in ensuring that the appropriate action is taken against her, despite the ANC's attempts to do otherwise.
