The DA mourns the loss of cricket legend, Clive Rice
28 July 2015
The DA sends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of one of South Africa’s cricket legends, Clive Rice.
Clive passed away this morning after a lengthy battle with a brain tumour.
Clive will be remembered as the first South African One Day International (ODI) skipper after South Africa emerged from the isolation of apartheid and a warrior who battled his illness with the same motivation and drive as he did any opponent who bowled or stood at the crease to face him.
The statistics on his performance speak for themselves and depict a man who achieved much in his chosen sport. He took 930 wickets in first class matches (482 in SA and for Nottinghamshire), scored first class 50s and 48 first class centuries.
