DA still denies proper services to poor

The ANC Western Cape says the DA government of Cape Town and the Western Cape should improve the conditions in Makhaza, Khayelitsha, and stop belittling the police!

This is the clear message the ANC has after visiting this forgotten area that is just as shockingly underdeveloped and perilous as it was in 2011 with the scandalous and undignified open toilet saga.

ANC Western Cape leader Marius Fransman says: "On Friday, while a young woman was raped in this area and her boyfriend murdered when he tried to rescue her, Western Cape premier Helen Zille went on another scathing attack against our police! Does she not realise every time she does that, she gives criminals permission to kill and attack our men and women in blue?

“Instead of targeting the police and wasting her energy on fouling the same people that protects her, Zille and her DA team in both the province and city should get their hands dirty in upgrading Makhaza into a dignified living space.

“Where is the promised infrastructure like proper working streetlights, dignified toilets and storm water drainage for poor areas that are regularly flooded? Where are the playing areas and parks for poor children? Instead of doing the right thing in these areas the DA redirects the city’s money to the leafy and rich areas of the Cape like Constantia and Claremont instead of Khayelitsha or Mitchells Plain.

“As many children have nowhere to play in Makhaza, the DA builds and upgrades unused parks in white areas, like the Dirkie Uys section of the Jack Muller Park in Bellville where millions are spent on dogs and duck, while the city claims it does not have money for poor people! It cannot upgrade infrastructure to stop the dying of babies because of diarrhoea!

“The DA wastes millions of Rand every year, but cannot find it in its heart to make life a little more bearable or safer for the poorest people in areas like Makhaza which has to be contented with inferior services. This is a shame on the DA. It is time the DA reprioritise urgencies instead of just spending money on cosmetically window-dressing for its mostly whites base constituencies.”
