DA to co-chair Joint Ethics Committee

Party looks forward to seeing robust approach to ensuring accountability and transparency on part of all public representatives

DA to co-chair Joint Ethics Committee

14 November 2024

The DA congratulates Henni Britz on his election as Co-Chairperson on the Joint Committee on Ethics' and Members Interests.

The Joint Committee stands as a guardian of the People's Parliament. By ensuring that members conduct themselves in line with the rules and regulations of both Houses, and in accordance with their Code of Conduct, this Committee ensures that members toe the line and exercise their powers and perform their functions strictly according to the law.

Having served the public for nearly three decades, as a public prosecutor, a magistrate, a councillor, and now a Member of Parliament, we have no doubt that Henni will elevate the standard of behaviour required of Members of Parliament and hold to them all to the same high standard as he does himself.

Members swear oaths to protect and uphold our Constitutional principles, yet we have seen an erosion in ethical standards from Members in recent history. With a DA Member now in the Chair of this critical organ of Parliament, we look forward to seeing a robust approach to ensuring accountability and transparency on the part of all public representatives.

We wish Henni well in his new position, as we elevate our public service to the benefit of all South Africans.
