DA to report Lindiwe Sisulu to the Public Protector, again – Makashule Gana

Party says Minister of Human Settlements still using public funds in her ANC election campaign

DA to report Lindiwe Sisulu to the Public Protector, again

25 July 2016

The Minister of Human Settlements, Lindiwe Sisulu’s has continued her ANC election campaigning, using public funds, today in Princess Informal Settlement, Johannesburg.

At the event, with clear department regalia being displayed, the Minister was seen together with ANC branding. It has also been marketed via ANC social media.

The DA will submit this latest evidence to the Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, for urgent investigation. In addition to this being at odds with section 195(d) of the Constitution; we contend that this is also a violation of the Executive Members Ethics Code. In fact, this sort of conduct has already been the subject of a scathing Public Protector Report.

Just last week the DA exposed Minister Sisulu for this very abuse of state funds at an official Department of Human Settlements (DoHS) in Missionvale, Nelson Mandela Bay.

That  Minister Sisulu has implicated herself in this abuse of State resources in defiance of the Constitution and of a Public Protector report for a second time in less than a week is indicative of the contempt the ANC and its governments have for the Rule of Law.

It is clear that the ANC is running scared in Johannesburg. They have lost the argument on which party has the better plan to create jobs, stop corruption and deliver better services. Instead, they have resorted to divisive comments, and the abuse of public funds – both of which are in contradiction to the spirit and values of the Constitution.

Minister Sisulu is clearly doing her best to grab some limelight in the last weeks of the campaign, after being completely absent for almost all of it. Perhaps it would be wiser for her to start-off by explaining Jacob Zuma’s disastrous management of the economy, and the sky-rocketing unemployment under his watch.

She may also want to ask the ANC Mayor of Johannesburg, Parks Tau, why it is that the City provides only 7% of its indigent households with clean access to water and only 9.6% with access to sewage and sanitation. The DA is proud of its record in Cape Town, where 100% of indigent households are provided with access to clean water, as well as sewerage and sanitation.

Latest polls show that the DA can win Johannesburg on 3 August. DA Mayoral Candidate, Herman Mashaba, has a plan to bring about CHANGE that will create jobs, deliver better services, provide honest government and stop corruption. This is the CHANGE that is needed to move Jozi and South Africa forward again.
