KZN PL says Sandile Buthelezi has thus far failed to call a lawful council meeting

DA to see uMngeni acting Municipal Manager in court

17 November 2021

The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal can announce that it is heading to the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday, 18 November 2021 at 09:00 regarding the failure of the acting Municipal Manager of uMngeni, Sandile Buthelezi, to call a lawful council meeting. See herehere

Our court papers can be found here.

The first respondent is the acting Municipal Manager, the second the uMngeni Municipality, the third the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and the fourth the suspend Municipal Manager, Thembeka Cibane.

The failure to elect the office bearers and the Executive Committee of the Municipality means that there is currently no official political leadership, which is against the will of the voters in the municipality.

We have also asked for an order of the court to bar Ms. Cibane from attending any further meetings in her attempt to disrupt them.

It is regrettable we have had to go to court to enforce the law to allow our government to be formed but we will spare no cost or legal resources to do so.
