South Africans abroad made their votes count with 84% voting for the DA.
The Democratic Alliance Abroad (DA Abroad) received 84.44% of the overseas vote in Election 2014. Of the 18,132 total valid votes cast abroad, 15,311 were cast in favour of the DA. This is more thank double in numbers on the overseas votes cast in favour of the DA in 2009.
This fantastic result reflects support by South Africans around the world who continue to take an interest in the country and may return, and who support the DA's offer of clean government and job creation.
Despite difficulties, including a London tube strike, 68% of those South Africans who were eligible to vote abroad in Elections 2014 cast valid votes.

It is unfortunate that the ballots cast in Toronto, Havana, Lubumbashi and Madrid were not counted mainly due to the ballots being delayed/withheld by the customs officials of those countries. These ballots are not expected to arrive before the 9pm deadline today. We understand that the IEC have done their best to get the votes back to South Africa, but of course will be taking this up with the IEC and will work together to avoid this in future.
The DA Abroad would like to thank every South African who cast their vote abroad in support of the DA. We know that the journey to the voting station was not easy and deeply appreciate the incredible efforts made around the world. We will work hard over the next five years to improve overseas voting procedures and justify their faith in us to create an Open Opportunity Society for All.
The DA's growth is a victory for all South Africans.
Statement issued by Francine Higham, Global General Secretary and UK Chairperson, DA Abroad, May 12 2014
