Midvaal has lowest unemployment rate in Gauteng – Kevin Mileham

DA MP says figures show where his party governs progress is visible

DA Delivers: DA-run Midvaal Municipality has lowest unemployment rate in Gauteng

8 April 2016

Unemployment in the DA-run Midvaal Municipality sits at 12%. This is 12% lower than the national average which was sitting at 24.5% in the fourth quarter of 2015. It is also 14% lower than the Gauteng provincial average, which sat at 27.6% in the fourth quarter of 2015.

This shows that where the DA governs it is making progress. The DA intends to bring this good governance that cuts corruption and creates jobs to many more municipalities across South Africa following the up-coming Local Government Elections on 3 August this year.

The success of the Midvaal is a reflection of DA-run municipalities. The Western Cape also recorded the lowest unemployment rate, at 19.4% out of all the nine provinces in the fourth quarter of 2016, proving further that were the DA governs, it governs better and fulfills its promises. Residents in the Midvaal Municipality and the Western Cape have first-hand experience of the clean and people-centred governance of the DA.

The DA government in Midvaal has achieved this accomplishment through a number of job creation strategies which include the simplification of procedures and by-laws, making it easier for new businesses to establish themselves as well as ensuring that turn-around times for land use applications are shorted for prospective investors.

By encouraging and assisting both large and small businesses, the economy of this Municipality has continued to grow despite the challenges of the global economic crisis and the national economic downturn of the past decade.

Growing the economy and creating jobs remains the DA’s top priority. Our growth and jobs plan released earlier this year details our plan to generate a dynamic economy that includes all South Africans and paves the way for a very different future: one of job creation, innovation, entrepreneurship, investment and growth.

The DA will continue working hard for residents where we govern to ensure that every South African lives in freedom, is treated fairly and has access to opportunities that will help improve quality of life and instill a sense of pride in being a South African. South Africans have an opportunity to vote for change at the upcoming Local Government Elections.
