DA's march a direct attack on Zuma and his family - ANC KZN

Sihle Zikalala says residents have a right to protect themselves from such an invasion

ANC CALLS ON DA TO ABANDON ITS PLAN TO INSPECT PRESIDENT'S HOME

02 November 2012

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal is alarmed by the Democratic Alliance's (DA) intention to inspect President Jacob Zuma's private residence in Inkandla on Sunday.

This is unheard of and unprecedented that a political party inspects a home of a sitting head of state. We urge that the DA abandon its planned visit. The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal wants to remind the DA that President Zuma's home is not a public place and we view the DA's decision to go to the President's home as unnecessary, provocative and politically not calculated.

We believe that this is nothing but one of the DA's well-crafted attention-seeking publicity stunts aimed at demonizing the ANC-led government and our president.

If the DA feels strongly that there is a need to protest against President Zuma's home upgrade, it should stage it to government. The DA is quickly becoming notorious of leading protests to wrong institutions. The party was recently warned not to march to Cosatu House to demand the implementation of the wage subsidy as the union does not deal with polices but they went ahead and caused serious provocation to Cosatu members. We don't want to see the repeat of what happened at Cosatu House so we appeal to the DA to consider abandoning their plan.

The ANC believes that the visit to the president's home will be a serious direct attack on the president and his family. It goes without saying that people who reside at President Zuma's home have a right to protect themselves from anyone who invades their home.

The DA knows very well that there are many avenues it can use to voice its views if it is not happy with President Zuma's home upgrade.  We also want to remind the DA that the president's residence in Inkandla is a national key point that should be respected at all costs.

The ANC supports government's decision to ask the Auditor General, Terrence Nombembe to audit the spending on the upgrade of Cde Zuma's home to see whether the prices were not inflated.
