DASO secures overwhelming victory at NMU

The Democratic Alliance congratulates the DA Student Organisation’s (DASO) Nelson Mandela University (NMU) branch, and their president-elect, Khwezi Mathambeka, on their overwhelming victory at NMU this week, securing 68% of the Student Representative Council seats.

In a historic poll, with 16 795 students participating, equating to an over 52% turnout, DASO NMU won four out of the five NMU campuses, secured four of the nine central SRC seats, and 28 of the 41 seats overall.

This is a significant improvement on last year’s results, wherein the EFF held the majority seats on the SRC and shows that support for the DA continues to grow amidst the youth.

The DA continues to build significant momentum in Nelson Mandela Bay following the election of Retief Odendaal as executive mayor and ushering in a new coalition government.

We will continue to fight for economic reforms that will address the crippling youth unemployment in this country. We cannot have graduates with degrees, sitting on street corners, looking for work!

To quote our new DASO NMU leadership, “we need real leadership that will bring new possibilities”.

We have faith in this new generation of young leaders and we are excited to see the positive changes that they will bring during their term of office.
