AfriForum welcomes DBE’s announcement that it will not oppose application regarding publication of matric results
17 January 2020
The civil rights organisation AfriForum has welcomed the Department of Basic Education’s announcement that it will not oppose the urgent application regarding the Department’s decision not to publish the 2021 matric results in the media.
“We hope to ensure in the court on Tuesday that the 2021-matriculants will be able to access their results on media platforms as has been the norm in the past,” says Natasha Venter, Manager for Education Rights at AfriForum.
The Department’s announcement follows AfriForum, Maroela Media and Anlé Spies (a 2021 matriculant) serving court papers on amongst others Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Basic Education on Friday 14 January, in order to oppose the Department of Basic Education’s sudden decision not to publish the 2021 matric results in the media on an urgent basis in court.
The urgent application will be heard in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on 18 January before the matric results are made available on 20 January 2022.
