De Lille's ‘Christmas messages for Madiba' initiative a ridiculous gimmick - COSATU WCape

Tony Ehrenreich says the Cape Town mayor has a record of selling out working families to pander to DA's wealthy white bosses

COSATU dismayed at De Lille's campaign of Christmas messages for Madiba

COSATU urges the Mayor to stop the ridiculous gimmicks to try and get her associated with Mandela's leadership. The setting up of a box for Christmas cards is just another gimmick to distract the people of Cape Town from the Mayor's abuse of the poor and marginalised. The recent scandalous acts of the Mayor includes going to visit people in their homes with a gas mask on and refusing to pay for the trains for poor people, like she does for the wealthy.

This builds on her tradition of selling out working families to pander to the DA's wealthy white bosses, all of this so that she can survive politically after her ID party was collapsing. Mandela would have told the Mayor that you are not measured by what you do for the wealthy [like IRT busses for Milnerton] but what you do for the poorest amongst us [like giving Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain the busses first]

De Lille could not be further removed from the values of Mandela, by her actions in the City of Cape Town. So instead of trying to get standing through linking herself with Mandela, she should actually try doing good for the poor for once. We will send our cards straight to Mandela!
