Don't waste your vote on smaller parties - Helen Zille

DA leader appeals to residents of Phoenix and Chatsworth to turn their back on the MF in by-elections

Your vote can turn Ethekwini wards blue for the first time

1 July 2014

Note to editors: The following remarks were made by DA Leader Helen Zille during by-election campaigning today in Phoenix and Chatsworth, Ethekwini Wards 52 and 73. The seats became vacant after Minority Front councillors defected to the DA.

Today we are campaigning ahead of by-elections in Ethekwini to cement the immense growth the DA achieved in the 2014 elections.

Between 2009 and 2014 the DA grew by 56.2% in KZN to become the official opposition in this province for the first time.

Nationally the DA recorded its highest ever vote tally, and the ANC its lowest. This is the momentum we will continue into the 2016 Local Elections.

In April I came to Ethekwini to welcome former Minority Front (MF) councillors Bradley Singh and Ronnie Pillay to the Democratic Alliance.

Today the blue machine is back on the streets again to make these 2 wards DA for the first time.

Both these councillors left the MF because they believe the DA is the only party capable of providing the best possible service to residents of these wards.

They have chosen to be part of our blue family that continues to grow across South Africa.

We thank them for working to spread our message to the residents of Chatsworth and Phoenix in these by-elections.

And our message to residents has been clear:

Don't waste your vote on smaller parties. Instead, vote for a growing party with a track record in good governance.

As the MF and other smaller parties continue to lose support and fight amongst each other, the DA is realigning politics in South Africa step by step.

Our promise to residents is that if you vote DA in these by-elections we will work day and night for better service delivery in these wards.

Let's make wards 52 and 73 blue as we continue the march towards 2016 and the realignment of politics in South Africa.
