"Dubhula ibhunu" doesn't incite violence - SAMWU

Union says the song is part of the heritage and history of the struggle

Equality Court ruling should be of concern to entire liberation movement

SAMWU has been perturbed by the ruling of the Equality Court yesterday, which stated the song "dubhula ibhunu" constitutes hate speech. We are of the view that the liberation song - the specific words "dubhula ibhunu" does not insight violence.

The judgment is unfortunate and incorrect. It should also be noted that the ruling is an issue of concern to the entire liberation movement and not just the ANC and or the ANCYL.

As said repeatedly by our federation COSATU, like many other national liberation songs, this song is part of our heritage and history of our struggle.

We support the ANC fully in its endeavors to appeal the ban on the struggle song.
