The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) mourns the passing of one of the longest serving political figures in South Africa and an important leader within the Zulu Royal Family, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi was born on the 27th of August 1928 in Mhlalabathini in KwaZulu-Natal, a province where he would go on to make a name for himself as a fierce custodian of Zulu customs and traditions. Prince Mangosuthu became one of the most notable and influential politicians in South Africa, who was able to manage the realms of politics and the Zulu monarchy for decades.

South Africa's history, with all its trials, tribulations and contradictions, cannot be told without mentioning the role of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and the politically party he founded and led for 44-years, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi was a statesman, a traditional prime minister to the Zulu Nation, and his legacy will remain a debate in the South African political terrain for years to come.

The EFF however appreciates that in his final years of political activity, he was able to suppress political intolerance in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, which allowed the EFF to campaign freely in the province in its formative stages.

We send our deepest condolences to the Zulu Royal Family and to the Inkatha Freedom Party, and hope that the soul of Umntwana ka Phindangene Rests In Eternal Peace.
