EFF welcomes denial of bail to ANC MP Sibusiso Kula

Fighters call on NPA to apply same energy, dedication and turnaround times in all femicide cases

EFF STATEMENT ON ANC MP SIBUSISO KULA'S DENIED BAIL APPLICATION, AFTER HIS ARREST FOR THE BRUTAL MURDER OF HIS WIFE

Tuesday, 31 January 2023

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) welcomes the judgement by the Orkney Magistrate Court in North West to deny bail to ANC MP murder accused, Sibusiso Kula. Kula is accused of stabbing 31-year-old wife, Ms. Jennifer Motlhomi to death. Ms. Motlhomi was found dead in their home on 27th November 2022 in what was made to look like a robbery.

We note that the National Prosecuting Agency (NPA) presented a sound case against Kula bail application. The EFF calls on the NPA to continue with the same energy, dedication and turnaround times in all femicide cases.

One in Three women are murdered daily by their intimate partner in South Africa. Women murdered in South Africa continue to be on the receiving end of inadequate policing and detective work, in fact, the inadequacies has increased over the past 10-years.

The EFF notes the thundering silence from the ANC led Parliament of South Africa who has again showed its strong attachment with men who murder, rape and abuse women. It is the same Parliament who referred a desperate mother to the maintenance court when she requested intervention from the Ethics Committee for child maintenance from an ANC MP.

It is the same Parliament whose Speaker called in men bouncers to sexually assault women MPs while the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa watched and laughed. It is the same Parliament that has calculatingly forgotten that it had a duty to also investigate the Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana for his sexual violence case. It is the same Parliament who harbors the DA Party Leader, John Steenhuisen who referred to his ex-wife as 'road kill'.

Therefore, the silence from the Speaker of Parliament and the ANC caucus comes as no surprise. The EFF will lodge a complaint with the Ethics Committee to call for Kula's immediate suspension without pay.

The bail judgement against Kula must be a record to all men who abuse, rape and murder women that they will face full might of the law.
