FF+ calls for an independent EE audit

Objects to Jimmy Manyi’s reference to “house niggers”

The Freedom Front Plus will in a written request be asking the Minister of Finance, the Auditor-General and Statistics SA to undertake an independent audit of the credibility of the Employment Equity Report which is issued annually.

The FF Plus's spokesperson on Labour, Mr. Willie Spies, said it is unacceptable that policy decisions are taken in South Africa today and viewpoints are propagated on the current situation of affirmative action while the figures on which these decisions are based, are suspicious. Spies reacted to a submission presented by the trade union Solidarity before the parliamentary portfolio committee on Labour in which the trade union had pointed out that there were gross contradictions in the annual employment equity report. One finding of Solidarity was, for example, that white women (contrary to what the Employment Equity Commission has alleged) are still worse off than what they had previously been. It was furthermore pointed out that the new black middle class (popularly referred to as black diamonds) is already larger than the total number of white economically active South Africans (rich and poor).

The FF Plus has also in the interim, asked the chairperson of the portfolio committee, Ms. Rebecca Kasienyane, in a letter for an explanation regarding media reports according to which the chairperson of the Black Management Forum, Mr. Jimmy Manyi, referred to black managers as "corporate house niggers". Spies said that the language used by Mr. Manyi is not only insulting but is also un-parliamentary and wanted to know from Kasienyane which steps she had taken to protect the dignity of parliament. Spies also indicated in the letter that he was concerned about the validity of the public hearing process because the chairperson of the committee has already asked Manyi last week to assist the committee with the drafting of recommendations.
