FF Plus grows by 125% in Potgietersrus by-election

Pieter Mulder says it’s further evidence that a vote in favour of the party does not play into the hands of the ANC

FF Plus grows by 125% in Potgietersrus

The FF Plus rendered a power display in yesterday’s by-election in Potgietersrus and increased its support by 125% from the previous local elections in 2011, Dr. Pieter Mulder, the leader of the FF Plus said.

The FF Plus is also the only party which improved its support. The other parties fared decidedly poorer. The DA’s support dropped by 48% from 1 244 in 2011 to the current 597, while the ANC’s support declined from 599 in 2011 to the current 338 votes.

In total 439 people voted for the FF Plus. This is in addition to the fact that the party had less than two months in which to run its campaign after its candidate, Ms. Marcelle Maritz, recently joined the FF Plus from the DA.

Dr. Mulder said the ANC’s poor performance is significant and the outcome contributed to putting an end to the view that a vote in favour of the FF Plus plays in the hands of the ANC.

“With regards to Potgietersrus, the conclusion could rather be made that people are turning their backs on the ANC and giving their support to other parties because they are tired of a lack of service delivery and empty promises.

“It also shows that the FF Plus is increasingly being seen as a party that really cares about the interests of minorities in South Africa. It is also the message that we got when all of the members of the management team of the DA’s branch in Wolseley in the Western Cape recently joined the FF Plus,” Dr. Mulder said.
