Dear Sanef Members,
This is a joint statement from the IAB, SANEF and Press Council on the expression from the film and publication board around the issue of the new regulation of the digital platforms.
FPB RECOGNISES AUTHORITY OF PRESS COUNCIL TO REGULATE ONLINE PRESS CONTENT
The Film and Publication Board (FPB) has, in principle, recognised the authority of the Press Council of South Africa (PCSA) to regulate online press content published by PCSA members.
This follows a meeting between the FPB and the PCSA, the South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) and the IAB SA where proposed revisions to the structure of the PCSA and the Press Code were presented to the FPB.
Participating in a panel debate at the Sanef annual general meeting in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, on Saturday 4 July, FPB CEO Themba Wakashe endorsed the revised Press Code, commenting that “the media is in good hands”.
