Gauteng govt funding proxy election billboards for ANC - Fred Nel

DA MPL says it is public votes, and not public money, that should decide the outcome of a free and fair election

Gauteng Government Ad Campaign: Public Protector must probe abuse of public funds

The DA in Gauteng will request that Public Protector Adv. Thuli Madonsela investigate the apparent abuse of public funds by the provincial government in an advertising campaign that blatantly disregards the official colours of the province and uses ANC colours instead.

Premier Mokonyane has refused to indicate how much the campaign costs in reply to my questions, but Beeld reports this morning that the Gauteng public could be forking out R2 million a month for the 51 billboards across the province. (See photos via Beeld below).

The official colours of the province are those in the provincial coat of arms: blue and gold. These also happen to be closer to the colours of the DA, and is evidently an inconvenience for the ANC.

The ANC is clearly running scared at the prospects of losing Gauteng to the DA and in a desperate bid to cling to power now turns to the abuse of state resources to further the ANC's political agenda.

It is obvious that the ANC is trampling on the divide between the party and the state and government by making the people of Gauteng foot the bill for its election campaign.

It is public votes, and not public money, that should decide the outcome of a free and fair election.

The DA will not stand for this abuse of public funds and the ANC's attempts to improperly influence the outcomes of next year's elections.
