Daily Sun (December 3 2013) - THE 37-year-old man broke into the gogo's house to rape her . . . but he was in for a big surprise. In a life and death struggle the brave woman grabbed her attacker by his balls, hit him with a big stick and stabbed him with his own knife. THE MAN DIED ON THE SPOT. Thakhuli Mohoase (61) was sleeping alone in her bedroom in Sophia kasi near Wepener, Free State, on Saturday night when the man broke her window and jumped into her room.

He took off his pants and tried to strangle and rape gogo Thakhuli, but on the last day of his life he learnt a terrible lesson: not all gogos are easy targets.

Surrounded by happy residents inside her RDP house, gogo told Daily Sun: "I was sleeping in my bedroom when I heard someone breaking my bedroom window. Then I saw this man with a knife in his hand. He grabbed me by the neck and started trying to strangle me as he dropped his pants."

She said she knew her life was in danger. She realised he wanted to rape her and then he would probably murder her.

"That's when I decided I must fight for my life. I grabbed his balls. I squeezed them very hard and didn't let go. Then I hit him with my walking stick. I grabbed his knife and used it to stab him," she said.

"He died on my bed."

The neighbours are happy that gogo Thakhuli killed the thug. She is now the hero of the village.

Gogo Nyefelo Makitle (60) said: "I doubt that I would have been brave enough to fight like Thakhuli. I'm happy she killed the man. Nobody knows if this was the first time he has tried to rape a woman."

Ward councillor Johnny Makitle said they would help Thakhuli with blankets because the blood has damaged hers.

"Thakhuli is not a murderer. She acted in self-defence," said Makitle.

Police spokesman Sergeant Yanga Ngcukana said two crime charges have been opened.

"A charge of attempted rape has been opened against the unknown dead man. A murder case has been opened against a 61-year-old woman. The woman will appear in Wepener Magistrates Court today.

"The woman was not arrested because she is traumatised and she is clearly not going to run away," said Ngcukana.
