Gordon's Bay leases apartheid theft - Tony Ehrenreich

Cape Town ANC leader calls on Public Protector to investigate looting

THE CORRUPTION AROUND THE GORDONS BAY HOLIDAY HOUSING LEASE'S DEEPENS

The corruption investigation into the above shows that the holiday home lease's, has been plagued by corruption and that some of the Councillors who are today aligned to the DA are involved. We are submitting our formal application to the Public Protector to investigate this matter, and we will also be laying fraud charges with the police in Gordon's Bay against this corruption by the Councillors who have given themselves 50 year leases.

The Letter to the Public Protector follows below:

3rd August 2011
To:  The Public Protector
Attention:  Ms Madonsela

Dear Ms Madonsela

Please receive correspondence from our offices in respect of an investigation request into the Leasing of Holiday Cottages in Gordon's Bay.

These holiday cottages are the Property of the City of Cape Town and should be available for the use of all the citizens of Cape Town. The Holiday cottages were given out under 50 year leases just before the end of apartheid. We have discovered that the Cottages were hired to many Councillors at the time who were linked to the National Party. We believe that is why the DA is trying to continue these leases through their Mayco decision, to approve the extensions of the leases.

The problem is being compounded by the fact that many of the leases that are at a cost of R1200 to the Council is now being , subleased to others of up to R 20 000 per month. This is clearly corrupt and a perpetuation of the looting that had happened under apartheid, by the apartheid beneficiaries. We would like the Public Protector to also consider whether it is legal for apartheid theft to continue, where these are in conflict with the Municipal Finance Act.

This president must then extend to other properties that have been hired out on long term leases to Nats just before the end of apartheid. This would include Municipalities as it relates to houses as well as farm land.

We look forward to the earliest reply from the Public Protectors offices

Yours Faithfully

Tony Ehrenreich
