Daily Sun (May 21 2014) - YESTERDAY MORNING, Daily Sun published the sad story of a 22-year-old woman who saw her rapists walking free on the streets. But by late yesterday afternoon, the thought of justice had brought a smile to her face.
ONE OF THE TWO SUSPECTS HAS BEEN ARRESTED . . . AND IS SITTING BEHIND BARS!
Yesterday, while the victim was at the Eldorado Park Police Station, cops received a call from a member of the community forum telling them the suspect had been spotted. They rushed to Freedom Park, where the suspect was arrested.
The no-nonsense station commander of Eldorado Police Station, Brigadier Leroy Nolan, told Daily Sun he knew he had to put the suspects behind bars when he saw the newspaper.
"This young woman has been violated and a serious crime has been committed. We owed it to her to arrest the suspect.
"We had to arrest him and we had to arrest him today!" he said.
The woman told Daily Sun she is very happy about the arrest.
"When I saw him, I almost fainted.
"I didn't want him to get away with raping me. I wanted justice!" she said.
"Members of the community knew him and often saw him going to his girlfriend's house. I couldn't even sleep, thinking of him walking around a free man.
"I hope getting justice will give me closure. What they did to me was cruel and I didn't deserve it."
The victim's mother said: "I am very grateful to Daily Sun for printing the story. I am so relieved one of the suspects has been arrested."
Captain Phillemon Khorombi, a spokesman for the Eldorado cops, said that a suspect aged 33 was arrested.
"The taxi that the suspect was driving was found at Bree taxi rank. He is expected to appear in court soon. We are still looking for the other suspect," said Khorombi.
