AfriForum releases step-by-step-guide to obtaining a firearm license in South Africa

In response to rising levels of violent crime in South Africa, AfriForum has launched a comprehensive guide that helps citizens step by step with the process of legally obtaining a firearm license. The guide walks potential firearm owners through each requirement – from securing a competency certificate to obtaining a firearm license and finally, acquiring a firearm.

This guide is available free of charge on AfriForum’s website and is designed to provide clear and actionable information for all South Africans interested in becoming responsible firearm owners. It emphasises the importance of effective training and the responsible use of firearms. The guide also urges prospective firearm owners to understand the gravity of owning a firearm and to always prioritise safety.

The AfriForum guide outlines the entire journey of legally obtaining a firearm license, providing detailed information on the following:

1. Obtaining a competency certificate: This is the first step in the process, where applicants must meet legal and safety requirements.

2. Applying for a firearm license: Guidance on the documentation and procedures required for a successful license application.
