COSATU statement on Waterkloof scandal
The Congress of South African Trade Unions is shocked at the news that the Gupta family were allowed to land a plane carrying guests coming to a private family wedding at the Waterkloof Air Base, and that the passengers were then given a police escort to Sun City.
Waterkloof is National Key Point to which access is strictly restricted for use of government and military purposes. It is an absolute insult to the people of South Africa that private individuals can use a public facility for their social activities and that and state officials should escort them.
COSATU demands an urgent investigation into who authorised the airfield's use for a purely private function and the threats to national security which could have been caused, and for those responsible to be disciplined.
