Positive approach welcomed
TAU SA welcomes President. Jacob Zuma`s students in communication to report more positive news as soon as they enter the communications world would.
"The country and its people need to get more positive news in a time of economic pressure and an often uncertain political situation," said TAU SA`s president, Mr. Louis Meintjes. "However, it will be difficult for any journalist to report positively about negative events. No journalist can report positively about a violent strike to readers, listeners or viewers. It is not possible to make a positive report on farm murders, drinking and irrigation water contaminated by raw sewage, bins not emptied or large cities' electricity supply that has been sabotaged. So is it unlikely for any journalist give a lyric positive reported on potholes in roads.
"The most negative aspects faced by the public daily in the media are issues specific to the government itself. If government were to start to get his own house in order to do its job as it should be done, and services would be delivered as it is expected from government, it would already eliminate most of the bad news in the media," said Mr. Meintjes.
"The agricultural community is also need for more positive news but the uncertainty and associated negativity in agriculture is actually caused by government's policies and actions. The media has the duty to report facts. Once the facts and realities addressed are positive, reporting will get positive, and TAU SA will be the first to applaud to such a situation," said Mr Meintjes.
