"How many more must die?" - Daily Sun

The front page and lead story of SA's largest daily newspaper, January 30 2014

SUNSAYS

This is Tshepo Baloyi (15), shot in the back by cops. He was only going to buy food for his mum . . .

Daily Sun (January 30 2014) -  THE RAGE and frustration of the people is reaching boiling point!

) FRUSTRATION over corrupt and useless municipalities who cannot provide them with the basic facilities of life 20 years after our new democracy was supposed to guarantee them.

) RAGE over corrupt and useless cops who let thugs go free, fail to keep the streets safe and respond to legitimate protesters by murdering them.

Two weeks ago it was Mothutlung. Last week it was Durban Deep. On Tuesday, Tzaneen.

So far EIGHT people - citizens, not criminals, and one an innocent boy - have died in three provinces at the hands of trigger-happy police in the month of January alone. And there's still a day left . . .

No longer can the government sit back and blame lazy local councillors or incompetent regional police commanders for this bloody warfare.

Sending cabinet ministers to the angry kasis to make soothing noises is just not good enough.

That's shutting the kraal gate after the bull has already bolted.

With the Marikana massacre of 34 miners still fresh in people's minds, something must be done. REAL action must happen. It's what governments are paid for and why people vote for them.

One thing's for sure: Enough people have died!
