Afrikaans schools ordered to stop denying black learners' right to be instructed in English

TOMMOROW GAUTENG LEGISLATURE VISITS FOCHVILLE HOERSKOOL, FOCHVILLE LOSBERG PRIMARY AND LAERSKOOL FOCHVILLE WHO PUT AFRIKAANS AS A CONDITION FOR ADMISSION OF BLACK LEANERS.

Tomorrow, 18 January 2012, Gauteng Legislature's Committee on Petitions will be visiting Fochville Hoerskool and Fochville Losberg Primary Schools who are have in the past turned away Black students from their premises because the medium of instruction at the schools is Afrikaans.

Last year the Gauteng Legislature and Gauteng Department of Education intervened and instructed the schools to open its doors to Black learners and stop denying them their right to be instructed in English. The Fochville Hoerskool took an issue with this and tried to fight this instruction by going to Court in December. The case was dismissed in January.

Tomorrow, hundreds of petitioners, parents and learners will descend on these schools to register their learners.  They will be at Fochville Hoerskool at 07: 30 and then move to Lorsberg Primary at 08: 30
