ANC statement of solidarity with SWAPO ahead of elections

Party urges people of Namibia to reaffirm trust in SWAPO and elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as nation's first female President

ANC statement of solidarity with SWAPO ahead of Namibian elections

25 November 2024

The African National Congress (ANC) extends revolutionary solidarity to the SWAPO Party and its Presidential candidate, Comrade Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, ahead of Namibia's upcoming elections. This moment reflects our shared commitment to the ideals of liberation, unity, and social justice.

We honour Namibia's rich history of courageous freedom fighters like Comrades Sam Nujoma and Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo, who stood firm against apartheid alongside Comrades such as Nelson Mandela. Their sacrifices continue to inspire liberation movements worldwide.

The ANC recalls the pivotal role of regional solidarity, exemplified by the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, which dealt a decisive blow to apartheid forces and paved the way for Namibia's independence. Today, as we celebrate these achievements, we must also guard against counter-revolutionary forces seeking to undermine liberation movements across Southern Africa, including SWAPO in Namibia.

We urge the people of Namibia to reaffirm their trust in SWAPO and elect Comrade Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the nation's first female President. Her victory will strengthen Namibia's progress and reinforce the unity of Southern African liberation movements.

The ANC stands firmly with SWAPO in defending the gains of independence and advancing a democratic, prosperous Africa. We call on all Namibians to uphold the ideals of self-determination and development, and we assure SWAPO of our unwavering support. Long live SWAPO! Long live the unity of Southern African liberation movements! Aluta Continua!
