DA Premier Candidate Unveils "RESCUE KZN" Campaign, commits to overhaul public healthcare
1 March 2024
Today, DA Premier candidate, Chris Pappas, announced the launch of the party's first election posters in KZN, marking the start of a critical campaign under the banner "RESCUE KZN." In a significant move, the DA chose RK Khan Hospital in Chatsworth as the backdrop for this announcement. This hospital symbolizes the broader crisis within the province's public healthcare system, plagued by staff shortages, equipment scarcity, and crumbling infrastructure. The selection underscores the party's commitment to address these urgent issues head-on.
In his address, Pappas highlighted the stark contrast between the experiences of ordinary citizens relying on the public health system and high-ranking ANC officials who enjoy the privileges of private healthcare. "While ministers and ANC officials benefit from high-quality private healthcare, the people of KZN are left with a failing public system," Pappas stated. He pointed out the dire consequences of such neglect, including intolerably long waiting times and a lack of critical care equipment, which exacerbate the suffering of the province's citizens.
The "RESCUE KZN" campaign is not just a call to action but a promise of a brighter future under a DA-led government. Pappas outlined a visionary plan to transform the public healthcare system into one that serves all citizens effectively, regardless of their income group. "Under our leadership, we will halve the waiting times at healthcare facilities. Hospitals and clinics will become places of healing, not despair," Pappas affirmed.
Achieving this ambitious goal requires a united front, and Pappas called on the citizens of KwaZulu-Natal to rally behind the DA. "We are the only party that has consistently demonstrated that where we govern, we bring about positive change. The DA is the only force strong enough to rescue KZN from the brink of healthcare collapse," he emphasized.
